L. D. Holland
by Ken Ward
Sometimes Wildlife Artist
Sometimes Artist of the Southwest
Always Unorthodox
L. D. Holland is a native Texan of American Indian and British ancestry, equally comfortable with a paintbrush or in a sweat lodge. He is a member of the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi Cherokee Tribe. His Indian name is Spirit Wolf.
He was a child prodigy artist who astounded his first-grade teacher with his ability to draw and color animals in detail, from memory. By the 4th grade he was designing mail pieces for the school and drawing human figures in motion without models or photographs. He refused formal training, instead found satisfaction and inspiration studying the masters on his own.
He has shown his work in New York and Texas primarily. His paintings are owned by industrialists, professors, and executives. Mr. Holland’s original works are in acrylic, oil, and beeswax. He spends hours in meditation before beginning each painting, in order to capture the haunting mood and with chroma rich canvases that glow with an inner light.
Whatever he is, he is an original – a maverick – and just maybe, a renaissance man.
Mr. Holland’s paintings are available in giclee prints on canvas in numbered series of 650.
THE GICLEE PROCESS
Giclee prints on canvas are wonderful. They are the nearest thing to the original work that is humanly and technically possible. 20 million droplets of rich pigment set a reproduction aflame with color. They are unsurpassed in rich color and razor sharp detail. The resulting image has every nuance of the original. The museum quality process assures 100 year light and UV resistance. Giclees are displayed in galleries and museums worldwide.
